WHY BACKUP AND DISASTER RECOVERY?
With businesses growing more and more and relying on IT to run, the need to securely backup your business in case of an emergency is more critical than ever before. Having a data recovery contingency plans ensures your business wont be down for any significant amount of time, this ensures your business stays strong and not losing your hard earned revenue even during the worst of disasters.
Disasters aren’t that common though?
BackUp and Disaster Recovery isn’t just in case of a natural disaster like a Cyclone or Flood, its more much more common events that could cripple your business such as power outages, cyber attacks, human error, fire and unexpected updates and patches. A comprehensive business continuity plan can be the deciding factor between growth and lost business.
How can you secure my business?
CustomTec offer a comprehensive service for both Backup-as-a-Service and Disaster Recovery (SmartDR) which is customised for your business environment, making it efficient and cost-effective as possible while completely securing your business from anything life can throw at it.
SmartDR Disaster Recovery
SmartDR is a cost effective disaster recovery service for business critical servers.
Why do I need SmartDR?
All businesses rely on Servers. Most businesses have a backup plan but few have a recovery plan, let alone the ability to test it. A disaster doesn’t have to be as dramatic as the Brisbane floods. It can be as simple as a power outage or a failed hard disk.
SmartDR provides a cost effective solution, providing many financial benefits such as;
– Pay by the Month (OPEX)
– No need to fund expensive DR Facilities
– Minimal capital expenditure
– No requirements to manage or monitor, it is all done by us!
How Resilient is your Business?
In the event of a disaster, business resilience is a deciding factor of how much your business is affected. We use Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) tailored for the nature of your business to formulate an optimal strategy in the event of a disaster, which minimizes down-time and makes recovery efficient.
How much Data can you afford to lose?
The Recovery Point Objective is used to describe how much data you are willing to lose. For instance, most typical backups are done on a nightly or weekly basis, however if you cannot afford to lose more than a few hours work in the event of a disaster then you are not fulfilling your RPO.
SmartDR provides a faster Recovery Point Objective which dramatically minimises the real information lost. We customise it to your business, so in the event of a disaster only minimal, if any, loss occurs.
SmartDR also provides a faster Recovery Time Objective (RTO). SmartDR recovers not just the data but the entire server into an operational state.
SmartDR will start a virtualised version of the failed server from the last backup and provide temporary failed server functionality in much less time than it takes to recover an entire server
For instance; to recover an entire server of 2 TB may take over 10 hours. Running a virtualised version from the last backup may take only 1 hour.
How does it Work?
SmartDR takes a point in time copy of the business critical servers. This includes the data, applications, operating system, everything. A copy is kept locally for fast local recovery, and a copy replicated to our secure Sydney based datacentre.
If there is a major event or disaster impacting the business critical server, SmartDR can bring online (potentially in minutes) the most recent copy of the entire server which enables continued business operation.
With traditional backups a backup copy is only done nightly. If there is a failure late in the day then an entire day’s work may be lost. SmartDR takes multiple backups during the day. This minimizes the amount of data lost.
Where is my Data?
Backup data is stored locally at your office for fast restoration. These images are also replicated to a Sydney datacenter to provide offsite storage.
How secure is my data?
Data is stored at the Equinix Sydney datacentre which includes 24×7 security guards, CCTV surveillance and biometric access. The datacentre has multiple internet feeds, redundant power feeds, battery backup power and diesel generators. Multiple air conditioning units provide climate control.
